Modern Flamenco/Spanish guitar

The traditional genre of Spanish guitar, also known as “Flamenco,” has struck my interest over the past few weeks. The Flamenco genre is a rich part of Spain’s cultural history. With Flamenco, guitar and dance are one in the same. The guitar part is often improvised to accompany the dancers.

The method for playing Flamenco is quite unique, and can be a real challenge for even the most veteran of players. Chords and rhythmic undertones are used in combination with 4-finger picking.

Here is a great example of modern Flamenco guitar. The song, “The Most Evolved,” is from John Clarke’s new album. Enjoy!
