The White Stripes started in Detroit, Michigan in 1997, consisting of drummer Meg White and vocalist/guitarist Jack White (né John Gillis), formerly of the band Go. Rumors have been flying around for years that Jack and Meg are brother and sister, but this is not true. The two are actually ex-husband and wife. Still, the two remained together to pursue their professional careers.
Their strange and unique style, drawn from a collection of different American rock and blues legends, was nearly an instant success. As of this post, their latest album, Icky Thump, is on store shelves… check it out. Amazing stuff!
